What is a Media Audience?

What is a Media Audience?

Media audience is about how media forms, targets, reaches and addresses audiences. How audiences interpret and respond to them and how members of audience become producers themselves.

An audience it its self is a group of people who follow a specific products or producers. Some audiences are more dedicated than others but all audiences are willing to pay money to see, buy or use the product or service they want.

There are two types of audiences:

  • Mass Audience: A large audience with a wide range, for example the BBC.
  • Niche Audience: A smaller and more specific audience, a small YouTube channel for example.
Audiences can be defined through what types of products they buy and use.

Target Audience

A target audience is an intended audience that is decided by the producer.  Target audiences often change depending what product it is. They can also change depending what time of the year it is, an example of this would be mothers day.
